A large majority of us spend the first couple decades of our life trying to please others. Rather with our image, our actions, our beliefs, or our accomplishments. Seeking acceptance and praise by our peers and our parents often is the motivating factor for much of what we do.
Eventually, for most, however there comes a time when we just start doing things for ourselves. Regardless of whether anyone approves or notices or doesn’t. In my early teens I started to discover soul and R&B for myself. The likes of Al Green, Marvin Gaye, and James Brown.
Songs like ‘Say It Loud’ started me on a path of self fulfillment that was independent of the desires or expectations of others. When I see individuals doing their own thing and it’s clear they’re not worried about acceptance it always catches my eye. It truly contributes to a more diverse and interesting world for all of us. Variety, after all, is the spice of life and we would have a lot more spice if everyone stopped worrying about what everyone else thought.
So Say It Loud! Whoever you are and however you do it.
